Grody stuff

Brace yourselves, it's time to talk about our favorite aunt.  TMI ahead!

Ever since my miscarriage I've been clotting more and more during my period.  Has anyone else experienced this?  It's starting to get a little worrisome.  Today's day 3, which is generally a heavy day for me, but I've been feeling okay, not too crampy or anything.  Then all of a sudden I started hurting way down low, you know how sometimes you can tell when your cervix hurts?  Well I can, and it hurts like a mother.  It kept getting worse and worse and finally I couldn't take sitting down anymore so I got up and hurried to the bathroom.  Passed a clot the size of a silver dollar and felt much better.

So even though I'm not TTC anymore/right now/maybe ever again, I'm worried that this means something.  What if I have a clotting disorder?  What if my endo is back with reinforcements?  What if whatever this is is what caused my m/c?  Ugh.  I hate IF.  Even when I'm not trying to get knocked up my body knocks me down!

A regular gal

I haven't missed a single period since my very first one, not even for those five minutes I was pregnant if you count the implantation spotting that started right when I was due for AF.  It's like my body just craves that monthly gift.

Well, I never said my body was rational.  Just predictable.

AF sucks.  Can I get an Amen?  And not just because of the infertility thing.  It's generally a pain in the arse that I'd rather not deal with.  IF adds a whole other dimension (or three) to that suckiness.  Not only is it a very unnecessary reminder of what my body can't do, but since my body can't do that thing, I ask you, what's the point of having a period?  I repeat: UNNECESSARY.

I'm not naming names here, but someone should have included an AF-OFF switch in the design of the human female body.  Think how handy that would be during nearly all phases of life!

Teenage years:  Want to wear your new white Daisy Dukes?  Got a hot date?  (Over-the-clothing groping only of course!)  Flip the switch and delay your monthly bill until tomorrow!

Child-bearing years:  Can't afford baby #7?  Your plumbing's busted and you're tired of crying in the bathroom stall at work every month?  Taking a second honeymoon with your hubby?  Not an issue!

Menopause:  Why go through years of sputtering ovaries?  Just flip that switch for good and call it done!

For some reason someone never comes asking for my sound and fail-proof input on these matters.  Though obviously they should; I'm a wealth of great ideas.  This one would be perfect today since AF decided to show up a day early, and I forgot to bring supplies with me to work.  So, dear someone, in case you're taking enhancement requests for the next round of evolution, I humbly submit the "AF-OFF Switch" for your consideration.  Maybe I can catch a break in my next life.

Dear AF: GFY

Well you know how they say your first period after a miscarriage might be heavier than usual? I thought I sorta bypassed that by having my first period after I'd already been bleeding for 4 weeks. And I figured this is technically my 2nd period since the m/c so it shouldn't be too bad...

Boy oh boy was I wrong! I'm going through pads like they're going out of style. Unfortunately, I'm also going through PANTS like they are going out of style. Seriously. I've never destroyed a pair of pants like I did today. I had to leave work and go to T.J M.axx to replace them because I'm too far from home to go change. And do you think I could be wearing something that goes with black? Of course not! I had to get brown pants. And don't think they're some nice, dark chocolate brown pants. Nope! They're light walnut-colored pants because T.J M.axx only had about 3 different pairs of brown women's pants. So I will be running to the bathroom every 30-45 minutes to make sure I haven't destroyed this pair too.

I almost wish my cramps would get worse so I'd have an excuse to just go home!

Now what??

My sincerest apologies for the sheer volume of TMI and visuals that are coming up. If you're feeling squeamish, it might be best to turn back now.

AF is toying with me and I don't know what's going on. Yesterday I started, or I think I did. The blood all looked old (kinda sticky dark brown/black in the pad, light brown when I wiped), and there wasn't much at all (enough to use only one pad for the whole day, and I probably could have gotten away with a liner). I thought for sure it would hit full force overnight, as CD2 is always heavy, but when I got up, to my surprise my pad was pure white as the driven snow. Today I have what I'd describe as somewhat/considerably more CM than usual, and it's brownish pink (very light when I wipe, and yeah, I reached on up in there and it's slightly darker when I "scoop" it out).

So of course I'm thinking two things: 1. Maybe I'm knocked up! :) and 2. Maybe the herbs my acu gave me this month jacked me up! :(

Other stuff going on: I'm somewhat crampy and my boobs hurt pretty bad. Oh and I have a little headache. If AF hasn't "officially" started, today would be CD30, 15DPO.

I'll test with FMU in the morning if my flow hasn't picked up considerably by then. I'll let you know how it goes. And I'm sure if anything changes today I'll be back here going on and on about it.

If AF is only messing with me I just might spend my three day weekend crying! Or shunning my diet and drinking heavily. Or both.

On tantrums and bridal showers

Thank you Rain and Daisy, for your thoughtful responses to my last post about the "Tar.get Tantrum." I do get that tantrums are probably much harder for the parents than the surrounding public, and I didn't mean to come off like I blame all parents for all their children's bad behavior. Mostly I just wanted to vent.

This will probably make me sound like a terrible person, but I do think there are some parents that need to do more to address/correct their children's bad behavior in public. In this particular case, the child was probably just shy of 2 years old, so it's not like you could blame him. What got me was that both of the parents were there and he was the only child with them. One of them could have taken him outside until he calmed down. Or they could have picked up the pace and tried to finish up their shopping instead of leisurely meandering around the store as they were. Twenty minutes is a long time to let a child scream in public. Maybe there was some reason beyond what was apparent that they chose not to do anything, and that's anyone's guess. What it looked like to me was two parents choosing to ignore their child's behavior rather than deal with it. But as we know, I'm a pessimist so of course I'm going to jump to that conclusion! I'm sure most of you ladies are a lot more generous than I am in that respect. :)

Now, onto the weekend. What a whirlwind - throwing two bridal showers in 24 hours! Both of them turned out beautifully, naturally! T's was Tuscan-themed, held at her mom's home late Saturday afternoon/evening. We had tons of pasta, bread, and wine, the tables and flowers were gorgeous, the games were fun, and T was thrilled. It was a great, if exhausting, day. And T was so sweet, she gave me a set of really nice outdoor wine glasses (i.e. plastic) as a thank-you for throwing the shower. I was just saying how I needed some, since we do most of our entertaining outside, so I LOVE them!

A's shower was Asian-themed (and no, I didn't realize until just now that "T is for Tuscan" and "A is for Asian" LOL), and it took place in my backyard Sunday afternoon. A works for a caterer and one of the other bridesmaids is an event planner for a hotel, so everything looked really professional - matching tables and linens, fancy matching folding chairs, chaffing dishes for all the food (veggie stir-fry, egg rolls and pot stickers, with red velvet cake and mochi ice cream for dessert), etc. My backyard has never looked so nice! And the decorations were perfect. We had Tibetan prayer flags at the gate, a cute "lounge" area, paper lanterns, cherry blossoms, and lots of red! I know I know, "PICTURES!" I'll post them when I get them all loaded up onto my computer. Promise!

Well, that was pretty much my whole weekend - cooking, cleaning, loading, unloading, setting up, tearing down, and running around in heels... Hubs and I did also stop by my parents' house to take photos in our African garb last night. (My parents are sending the pics to their friends in Cameroon.) I think we looked pretty cute! I'll post those too when I get them.

Last and least, today is CD5, and unless she's teasing me, I think AF is already on her way out. That's probably thanks to the herbs from my acu, because my whole life AF has lasted 7 solid days. Last month was more like 6 days, and now 5? Nice! I'm not too enthusiastic about TTC this C though. I kind of figure, with a 0.1% chance of getting pregnant, why bother? On the other hand, if we don't try I'll kick myself later, so I'm sure we will regardless. At any rate, all I'm interested in right now is a nice long nap. If only I didn't have to wait until I got home!

6.03.2010

CD1

Well, I can say one thing for AF: She is certainly punctual.

:(

5.09.2010

CD1, WTH!

Happy Mother's Day to ME.

AF crashed my weekend and showed up 2 days ahead of schedule, the hag. What's she trying to do, make up for last C when she sauntered on in 4 days late? Sigh.

Some thoughts on this visit:

1. I thought I felt O pains on CD14, which would mean I had a 12 day LP. That's not too bad, considering I don't normally O until day 17 or 18, giving me a 10 or 11 day LP in a 28 day C.

2. Some of my usual PMS symptoms were MIA - no sore/swollen boobs at all, minimal moodiness, no bloating, and very little cramping (until now). All this and #1 make me think maybe, just maybe, acupuncture is doing something for me.

3. At least my period will be mostly gone by the time hubs and I leave for our anniversary trip on Thursday. Not that we'll be getting all romantic in the guest bedroom at our friends' house or anything! But you know, I'll be able to wear my white spandex pants and twirl in slow motion and whatnot.

As you can tell I'm really trying to see the silver lining in this situation. I'm not happy but I'm not devastated either. Last month was much worse with all the "signs" and AF being so late. I'd much rather start early than late, and I had no reason to get my hopes up this C. Plus I was so depressed all last month I was kind of looking forward to it being over!

I'm also looking forward to trying Circle + Bloom this C. I'd read about it a couple months ago but didn't want to spend the money on it at the moment, and I was also a little skeptical. Then I read about it again on Busted Plumbing the other day and thought, why not? I got hubs (a.k.a. the Treasurer) to approve the $59 it costs for the mp3s, and I'm about to head on over there and download them right now.

I hope everyone made it through today with relative ease, you were all in my thoughts! (((Hugs)))

4.14.2010

CD1

I am fairly devastated.

I try to play the tough girl and tell myself, "I knew I wasn't pregnant anyway." But you know how it is. There is always some amount of hope until AF shows up (especially 4 days late). I'm no different, I just don't like to admit it.

Now to choke back the tears and get some work done.

4.09.2010

My morning, the weekend, and unconditional surrender

Atticus is on my sh*t list today. (Yeah, Lent is over and I'm already back to my old bad habits and sailor mouth. But I have cut back a lot on my swearing, overall.) He likes to watch me iron, something about the back and forth motion and the cord wiggling around simply fascinates him. He'll sit on this little cabinet right next to the ironing board and just stare.

And sometimes, get really wound up.

And his pupils get dialated.

And his tail starts flipping around all crazy-like.

Normally I'm able to stop him and kick him out of the room before any of us get hurt, but not today. Today my hand was right in front of him while he was getting agitated, so he sank his claws into it! I'm now the proud owner of a bright red, bleeding, 2 and a half inch scratch from my pinky almost to my wrist. (I know it's 2.5 inches because I'm a dork and I measured. And if you don't think 2.5 inches is a long scratch, then check your ruler, cuz it is!)

Owiiiiie!

So I'm in a bad mood today. I was 10 minute late to work, I feel AF heading my direction, and the back of my hand stings! Boo-hoo.

But it's Friday, and I will somehow muddle through.

In addition to the wedding this weekend (for which I still have no idea what to wear), we're also celebrating my mom's 60th birthday on Sunday. My brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews and me and hubs are all heading to my parents' house for lunch, catered by our favorite Mexican restaurant. Yum! And tonight hubs and I may be heading downtown to watch a friend's band play (R, of the engaged couple A&R). I swear he's going to be famous one day, he's an amazing musician. Should be fun.

Final thought: I'm going to try not to think about this C anymore. It's all fine and dandy to be optimistic and hopeful the first 3 weeks of my cycle, but that's about all I can muster! I only have about one cup left of my optimism tea and I don't think it's gonna do the trick today. So bring it on AF, I surrender.

4.08.2010

Watch my head spin off my neck!

Oh my goodness. I'm not sure how much longer I can hold out.

It's CD26 out of 28-ish.

You know me, I don't do HPTs. My cycles are way too regular, and I am way too tightly wound to start testing before AF is late. But I am reeeeally tempted this C. Two more days until AF is due. I still have a bunch more CM than usual, but I'm starting to wonder if it's just the Clomid causing it. Anyone experienced that with Clomid before? If I can just keep thinking that's it, I can manage to wait until Saturday to test. I need that level of realism to keep me from leaving work to buy a FRER right this second. As it is I'm feeling up my boobs every half hour - does it hurt on top? Under my arms? Anywhere? Not really... well, if I squeeze too hard, then yes...

Jeez I really hope no one catches me doing that!

I feel very period-y today, slightly crampy, and just like... full. Who knows, maybe I'll start a day early like last C. Whatever. My motto is better early than late if AF is coming anyway.

Ugh. I'm all over the place. How is it possible to feel this many emotions at the same time?????

Moving on...

I found out some of our friends hired a limo to take us to and from the wedding we're going to on Saturday. I thought it was really nice of them to include us. The wedding is just far enough away to make transportation a hassle if we want to drink (which, if I get a BFN, I will definitely be doing) and it's not terribly expensive for the convenience of the limo, so I'm looking forward to that.

My brother and SIL are also going to the wedding, as the groom is my SIL's cousin. And my brother actually dated the bride briefly right after HS. We live in the biggest small town ever, there are over 100,000 people here, but somehow everyone still knows everyone else. I think it's fun that our friends, the bride and groom, are going to sort of be family now too!

Okay that took my mind off my uterus for 2 minutes, now to figure out how to get through the rest of the day!

It's almost Friday, hooray!

3.15.2010

Debauchery

This weekend was really fun.

And I am really exhausted.

I'm such a terrible storyteller, and I am so tired, that I'm not sure I can convey the craziness and fun of this bachelorette party. But here are some key points:

1. I (along with almost everyone else - about 20 girls) drank too much on Friday night even though I promised myself I wouldn't. But there were shots. SHOTS! You have to do shots at a bachelorette party!

2. There were a couple instances of girls sprawled out on floor of the hotel hallways. And one instance of a lacrosse player on our floor having to carry a girl to her room. Neither occasion involved me, in case you were wondering. ;)

3. There was one instance of hotel security being called on some members of our party. I guess they got a little rowdy coming back from the bars! The bride and another girl attempted to hide from them in the maid's closet and were quite easily found.

4. I slept a total of 4 hours Friday night and woke up feeling 100% wretched. I had to rally because Saturday was wine tasting day. Did "hair of the dog" for the first time in my life and it really works! But I don't want to ever have to do it again!

5. Wine tasting was great! We visited 4 wineries and I joined one club. The last winery had a bunch of wigs and hats to play with while we tasted. Unfortunately the limo with karaoke was out of commission so we had to make due with singing along to CD's. But our limo was still pretty freakin' awesome, and bigger than the one they'd originally booked. (It was one of those SUV ones.)

6. I really got out of my shell and had a great time! Even though I roomed with BOTH of the pg ladies. Yep, there were 2. But it worked out because I went to bed early on Saturday night and I am 100% sure I was in the quietest room. And although one of them got pg the first month of trying, the other had struggled with IF, so I didn't take it too hard.

Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately after the debauchery I participated in this weekend, AF showed up a day early yesterday, and with a vengeance! I am going to have to pay more attention to my C's as a whole. I didn't appear to have Oed this C, but had a ton of EWCM, and now AF is kicking my butt. I wonder what's up with that?

Now to power through the rest of this day... or at least try to stay awake for the next 5 hours...

2.16.2010

Wrong

Well, my psychic powers have failed me, AF isn't showing up tomorrow, because she showed up just now.

Ugh.

At least she didn't ruin my undies.

I'm gonna go cry over a burrito now.

Randomness

It's CD28 and I fear AF is imminent. Unless my psychic powers deceive me she will be here tomorrow. The cramps have mellowed out and the bbs are still a little sore, but she can't fool me. I've been keeping my eye on her long enough to know all her tricks by now.

Course now that I say that she'll probably sneak attack me today and ruin my new undies. The b*tch. That's what I get for wearing new undies on CD28 though.

Last night hubs and I had our massages and it was heavenly. Once mine was done I was ready to SLEEP. Not just super relaxed, but exhausted-ready-to-pass-out-at-8:00. Today I'm a little achey, which I guess is fairly common. I'm sure having my super-tense muscles worked on for an hour is bound to have its effects. I feel like I got a workout! I think I can talk hubs into making this a regular thing though. He even said as Aunt K was leaving that we should schedule another one around O time next C. I guess he likes to have me pliable. ;)

(Heyyy nice, someone just brought me an envelope full of Hershey's Kisses and peanut M&M's. How did she know I was PMSed?)

I'm pretty excited about taking the royal jelly and of course I already started. (Dot, to answer your question here's a short article.) I only wonder if I should take more - 1 capsule is 500 mg, and I thought I read somewhere that 1000 mg is recommended. I know it's okay to take that much, I'm just cheap and I want to make my little supply last as long as possible :)

Somehow that reminded me that I still haven't gotten any info on my acupuncture referral! So I just called the doc's office to see if it was denied... and it was. :( The doctor's office doesn't have the reason, so I can either call the ins co or wait for my letter. Either way, they're a bunch of b*stards. I hate insurance.

At least I have this envelope full of chocolate to drown my sorrows in.

1.27.2010

Farewell, wicked witch!

AF's reign of terror has ended, for this month anyway. Hooray!! Although she started out with a vengeance, she tapered off pretty quickly. And, remember how I mentioned my period lasts 7 days every month, but the past few months I stop bleeding on CD4, only for it to pick up again on CD5? Well this month there was no "pause." Not sure if that's due to the raspberry leaf tea or the exercise I've been making sure I put in every other day, but either way, I'm happy! "Normal" is a good thing.

So the BD fest has started once again. I think I'll do OPKs this month so I can determine when to cut back on the raspberry leaf tea. I'm not really afraid it's that bad for pregnancy, not to mention I'm not particularly hopeful that I'll even get pregnant, but I guess you can't be too careful right?

1.21.2010

Thursday schmursday

Thanks for all your comforting words yesterday ladies, you're the best :)

I'm feeling less sorry for myself today, which is a good thing because I need the energy to deal with this headache I've had for the past 2 days, along with the unusually heavy AF. You ladies weren't kidding when you said the first couple C's after the lap tend to be heavier! Yuck. I'm sure that's why I have the headache too.

Today I added raspberry leaf tea to my infertility regimen. Well, the word "regimen" may be a bit strong for what I actually do. I just drink 2 cups of green tea every day and try to remember to take my vitamins! Anyway, the tea is not bad, kind of like a mellower version of black tea with a little earthy sweetness to it. I haven't quite decided how often and when to drink it. Maybe every other day until O? Does anyone else drink it?

Well, not much else to say. Let's hope the afternoon goes by more smoothly than this morning did (I got blood on the bathmat, hit my head on a cabinet door, and almost got side-swiped on the freeway). At least I get to leave work early, I'm getting that x-ray for my neck so I can FINALLY go see my chiropractor. I'm dyin' here!

1.20.2010

You're invited...

To my PITY PARTY.

Yeah that's right, I'm feeling sorry for myself, so if you're not up for it, better turn back now!

Today marks the first day of C24 and I am none too thrilled about it. Two dozen cycles TTC under my belt, and two dozen failures to match.

I know it was only the first full C after my lap, but I am tired of this. When I think ahead to the coming months, I'm overwhelmed. I don't know how I'm going to make it through another year of TTC, much less two (the amount we allotted before throwing in the towel). I don't know how you ladies who have been trying for 3, 4 and 5 or more years keep it up. Yes, I try to be hopeful and enthusiastic about TTC, but in reality I am lost, drained, and beyond frustrated. I couldn't even work up enough energy to cry this morning when I saw AF had arrived. Why bother? It's not like it was a surprise, and it's not like the tears make any difference.

As if to rub my IF in my face just a little bit more, yesterday this local story (big trigs) was all over the news. Sigh... It's useless to lament the unfairness of life, but sometimes I just want to scream. Why??? And why not me? Why not all of us??

Ugh. I'll get over this soon, but today I'm letting myself have a down day. At least with this massive storm we have going on the weather matches my mood - angry and depressing.

12.22.2009

I do believe...

...that AF might be showing her face a couple days early! Woohoo! I started spotting this afternoon, so hopefully she doesn't try anything tricky and just gets to flowing! I haven't been this excited to get my period in YEARS.

Question: Does anyone else get into this weird emotional state right before/at the beginning of AF? I'll have regular old mood swings for days before AF shows up, but very often I'll feel absolutely horrible about myself for a little while on CD1 or the day before, and it has nothing to do with TTC. I remember as a teenager I'd get the same feeling. Just like REALLY down, super low self-esteem, almost to the point of feeling guilty, over just anything. Or nothing at all. Is that weird or just normal PMS?

11.26.2009

Goose eggs and turkeys

Well, I didn't even need to test. Last night spot showed up, and AF found me this morning. My neck is killing me and I'm just not really looking forward to this day (it's only 10:45 here at the moment). Hubs ran to the store just now to pick up a bottle of champagne for some mimosas to go along with the waffles I'm making for breakfast. Or brunch now I suppose.

If anyone else is having a downer of a day so far, just know you're not alone! I'm right there with ya, and there are a ton of wonderful women who have your back.

I'm going to try to make the most of today. The weather is beautiful here, hubs and I are going to see a lot of people we love, and hell, we have each other!

Today I'm thankful for YOU (yes, you reading this right now), and I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

11.02.2009

Concerned-er

And... now I'm bleeding again? Not beavily, but it's a good thing I put a liner in!!

Oy. I hope my GP can help me figure this thing out.

Concerned

Today is CD5 and the witch is already dead. My normal periods last a solid 7 days. This one started Thursday fairly heavily, then gradually tapered off until Saturday night when it apparently stopped altogether. Only 3 days. I had some pinkish CM yesterday and this morning and that's it - not even enough to be considered spotting.

Given the wacky periods this month and back in July, and the weird OPKs this C (hubs says he saw a + on the one I forgot to check, but I don't know for sure) I'm worried that I'm not ovulating regularly. Not to beat a dead horse or anything, it's just freaking me out! I have my annual with my GP on Thursday, so I guess I'll add this to my list of stuff to talk to her about. Ugh. I just don't need anything else to worry about.
